On 20 June 2017, the National Platform on ESD has adopted the National Action Plan for GAP implementation. It defines 130 objectives and 349 measures to scale up ESD in all areas and at all levels of the German education system.

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), in its role as lead ministry, has established a National Platform, expert forums and partner networks in order to drive forward the integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the German education system, thus implementing the UNESCO-ESD programme "ESD for 2030".

The phase of life between the ages of 15 and 27 marks the end of childhood and the beginning of adulthood. ESD enables youth to actively shape this future in a way that compatible with the realities of future generations and people all around the globe.

What is the status of ESD-integration into Germany´s education sectors? How is ESD being transferred into the education system? These and other questions are systematically assessed by the ESD-Monitoring at Institut Futur (Freie Universität Berlin).
